Quick Answer
We measure, supply and install custom garage doors across Perth: doors made to a non-standard opening, or faced in something other than a stock steel panel, such as cedar boards, aluminium slats, timber-look steel or glazed panels on a sectional or tilt frame. The motor is matched to the door's weight and the old door goes away with us. The owner has 20 years in the trade, the measure and quote are free, and we price the whole job before anything is ordered.
What a custom garage door is, and when a Perth home needs one
Custom is not a fourth type of garage door. It is what a sectional or tilt door becomes when the opening or the face is not standard. On the size side, that means a double wider or taller than the stock range, a high opening for a caravan or boat, an arched opening on an older rendered home, or a narrow single from the 1960s. On the face side, it means cedar boards, aluminium slats, timber-look steel, composite cladding or glazed panels instead of a plain steel panel. The hardware behind it is the same as on the sectional garage doors we supply and fit, or on a tilt door, so a custom door runs, and is serviced, like any other.
Three situations lead to a custom door in Perth. New homes in City Beach, Applecross and Dalkeith, where the garage door is part of the front elevation and a stock panel would look like an afterthought. Renovations in Mount Lawley or Subiaco, where the house has just been re-clad or rendered and the old door is the last thing that does not match. And coastal streets from Hillarys down through Scarborough to Fremantle, where salt in the sea breeze finds every cut edge on a steel panel, which is one reason aluminium slats and powder-coated frames are popular near the beach. Sun matters as much as salt: on a west-facing door, cedar dries out and greys faster and wants oiling more often, while a dark timber-look steel panel gets hot enough to warm the garage behind it. You can see doors we have finished in our gallery before you settle on a look.
Because nothing about a custom door is off the shelf, the measure matters more than usual. We measure the opening, headroom, side room and the depth back into the garage, check what the door will be fixed to, and look at the face against your own brickwork, render or cladding rather than a brochure. Weight is the part people do not expect: cedar and glass weigh more than a steel panel, so the springs and the opener have to be sized to the finished door, and we pick the Merlin, Jaytech, Superlift or Steel-Line opener to suit. You then get one written quote covering the door, the face, the motor, removal of the old door and the fitting, with timing confirmed at the same time. Nothing is ordered until you have agreed to it.

Why Choose Perth Garage Doors Repairs
Finishes chosen on site
Cedar, slat, timber-look and glazing weighed up against your own brickwork and render, not a showroom wall.
Cedar, aluminium, timber-look
Real timber that wants oiling, powder-coated aluminium that does not, or timber-look steel, with the upkeep of each spelled out.
Honest about the approach
The owner has 20 years in the trade and will tell you if a stock door in the right colour does the job.
Tested before handover
Every door is run through full cycles with the safety reverse set before we leave.
Motor to suit
Heavier faces need heavier openers; we match a Merlin, Jaytech, Superlift or Steel-Line unit to the finished weight and door type.
Finish checked, not just fitted
Board lines, slat gaps and window margins checked for even spacing before we pack up.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Sectional and tilt doors are made to the measurements of the opening, so a width or height outside the standard range is a matter of ordering it that way. The usual reasons are a high opening for a caravan, a boat or a 4WD with a roof rack, a double or triple garage wider than the common sizes, a low lintel with little headroom, or a narrow single on a 1960s house. Each maker has upper limits on width and height that change with the panel and the finish, so we check your sizes against them at the measure rather than promise a figure over the phone. Low headroom is solved with different track hardware more often than with a smaller door.
We do not put a number on it until we have measured, because a custom door has more variables than a standard one. The size sets the material and the spring; the face sets most of the rest, with timber-look steel, cedar boards, aluminium slats and glazed panels all priced differently; the opener depends on the finished weight; and access and taking the old door away sit in the labour. The measure and quote are free, there is no call-out fee, and the price is agreed in writing before anything is ordered.
Yes, in more ways than most people expect. Colour is the simplest: stock steel panels come in the Colorbond range, and aluminium frames and slats can be powder-coated in a much wider palette. Then the face: cedar boards, aluminium slats with the spacing you choose, timber-look steel, composite cladding, or glazed panels in acrylic, polycarbonate or glass, clear or frosted. Windows can go in one row of a sectional door or across the whole face. And on a tilt door made to take cladding, the frame can be covered in the same boards the builder used on the house, so the door disappears into the wall. Heavier faces change the springs and the motor, so we settle the face and the hardware together at the measure.
We would not recommend it. A clad or glazed door weighs more than a stock panel and its springs are wound to carry that exact weight; get the tension wrong and the door will not stay up or comes down hard, and a spring under load can hurt you badly if it lets go while you are adjusting it. Cladding an existing door yourself causes the same problem, because the extra weight throws the balance out and overloads the opener. Choose the boards, colour and glazing yourself by all means, and leave the measure, hardware and tensioning to us.
We do not give a standard answer, because there is no standard custom door. Yours is built to your opening in the face and glazing you have chosen, so timing depends on the maker and the finish, and we confirm it when we quote rather than guess here. The installation is booked around you once the door is ready, and your old door stays up until that day.
Rather than hand you a list, here is how to sort them for a custom job. They should measure on site and ask about headroom, side room and what the door fixes to before naming a figure. The quote should be itemised, with the door, the face, the motor and removal as separate lines. Ask which door makers they actually install and whether they service the doors afterwards; we supply, install and service Steel-Line, B&D and Centurion Garage Doors, and fit Merlin, Jaytech, Superlift and Steel-Line openers. And ask to see a finished custom door, not a render.
