Privacy Policy

Who this policy covers
Ahmed Al Shober, trading as Perth Garage Doors Repairs (ABN 29 748 128 732), runs this website and the garage door business behind it. This page sets out, in plain terms, what personal information the site and the business record about you, why, who else sees it and what you can ask us to do with it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and we have written this page to match what the site actually does rather than what a template says.
What is recorded when you browse
On your first page view our server sets a first-party cookie called pgd_vid. It holds a random identifier and nothing else: no name, no contact detail, no login. It lasts up to 400 days and its only job is to connect a later quote request or call to the visit that led to it, so we can tell which advertising and which pages actually bring in work.
Alongside that identifier the site records, once per visit:
- the page you landed on and the site that referred you (if your browser passes one);
- any campaign tags in the address you arrived on, such as
utm_values or the click identifiers Google, Microsoft and Meta add to ad links; - a coarse device type (phone, tablet or desktop) worked out from your browser's user-agent string;
- the Google Analytics client identifier from the
_gacookie, if that cookie exists.
This is sent through our own server to the customer-management system we run, where it sits against the anonymous identifier until you choose to give us your details. Your IP address is seen by our server for rate-limiting only and is not written to that record.
The site also uses your browser's session storage for small housekeeping flags: whether the opening animation has already played, whether the visit has been counted, and a per-tab id for the chat assistant. These vanish when you close the tab.
Google tags and call measurement
On the live site we load Google's tag (gtag.js) from googletagmanager.com. Today it is used for Google Ads conversion measurement: it records when a visitor taps a phone number, sends a quote request or completes a booking, so we can see which ads pay for themselves. Google sets its own cookies for this and receives the usual technical data a script collects. Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and Google Tag Manager are switched off at the time of writing; if we turn any of them on we will update this page. Outside the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, advertising and analytics storage is treated as permitted by default under Google's Consent Mode, which is consistent with Australian law.
If you reach us from an advertisement, a referral, an email, an SMS or an AI assistant, the phone number shown on the page may be a tracking number that forwards to our normal line. Calls to a tracking number are logged with the calling number, the time, the duration and the outcome, and, where our call system has recording turned on, the call is recorded. A recorded call is announced at the start of the call so you can hang up before speaking if you would rather not be recorded. Search engines, direct visitors and people arriving from our Google Business Profile always see our standard number.
Quote requests and bookings
The quote request form on this site is served from our customer-management system inside a frame. When you send it we receive what you typed: your name, mobile number, email address, the property address, the service you chose, your description of the problem and any photos, video or PDF files you attach. Files you upload but never submit are deleted automatically within hours. The anonymous visitor identifier described above travels with the submission so we know which visit produced it.
We use these details to quote, to schedule and carry out the work, to invoice, and to contact you about the job by phone, SMS or email. After a job we may send one message asking how it went, with a link to leave a Google review; you are free to ignore it.
Online bookings are taken through Timely, a third-party diary at bookings.gettimely.com shown inside a frame on this site. What you enter there is collected by Timely under its own privacy policy and then made available to us to run the appointment.
The chat assistant
The chat window on this site is an automated assistant, not a person. Everything you type into it, along with the page you were on and a per-tab conversation id, is sent through our server to the content system that runs the assistant. That system stores the conversation and passes the message text to an outside AI model provider (at the time of writing, DeepSeek) to produce a reply. We keep the transcripts so a staff member can follow up on an enquiry and so we can see where the assistant gives poor answers. If you fill in the short contact form inside the chat, the name, phone, email, suburb and job type you enter are saved against that conversation. Please do not type anything into the chat that you would not want kept, such as card numbers or another person's details.
Advertising platforms
When a quote request turns into a real job, our customer-management system may report that outcome back to Google Ads so the campaign that produced it is credited. That report contains the click identifier from your original visit, the consent state recorded by the site, and a one-way hash of your email address or phone number. Google can match a hash against its own records but cannot read the original address or number from it. We do not upload customer lists for advertising and we do not sell personal information to anyone.
Other third parties
- Google Maps — the map on our contact page is an embedded Google frame. Loading it means Google sees the request, as with any embedded map.
- Image delivery network — photos on the site are served from a content delivery network at perth-garage-doors-repairs.b-cdn.net, which sees your IP address in order to send you the file.
- SMS and email services — job messages are sent through a commercial SMS gateway and an email provider, which handle your number or address only to deliver the message.
- Hosting — the website and the systems behind it run on commercial hosting; the providers process data on our behalf and under our instructions.
Some of these providers store data on servers outside Australia. Where that happens we rely on the provider's contractual commitments to handle it appropriately. We may also disclose information where a law, a court order or a regulator requires it.
How long we keep it
Job records, quotes and invoices are kept for as long as we need them to run the business and to meet tax and record-keeping obligations. Attribution data, chat transcripts and call logs are kept only as long as they are useful for the purpose described above. Abandoned file uploads are removed automatically, and Google Ads reporting stops using a click identifier once it is older than 90 days. Where this page does not state a period, the rule is: only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for.
Keeping it safe
Traffic to the site is encrypted, the systems that hold customer records require staff logins, and chat messages and visit data pass through our own server rather than going to those systems straight from your browser, so the keys that unlock them never reach the page. No system is immune to failure, so we do not promise more than that: we take sensible steps, and we would tell you if something went wrong with your data.
Your choices and rights
- You can delete the
pgd_vidcookie, or block cookies entirely, in your browser. The site keeps working; we simply lose the ability to connect your visit to a later enquiry. - You can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it.
- You can ask us to delete it. We will do so unless we are required to keep a record, for example an invoice for tax purposes, in which case we will tell you what we are keeping and why.
- You can ask us not to contact you about reviews or follow-ups, and we will stop.
If you believe we have mishandled your information, contact us first using the details below. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.
