One panel, matched
Quick Answer
One damaged panel does not usually mean a new garage door. On a sectional door we take out the bent or rusted section and fit a replacement in the same profile, in the closest colour the maker still produces. On a roller door the curtain is one sheet, so a buckled curtain is replaced on its existing drum and guides. We do this across Perth with no call-out fee and the price agreed before work starts, and if a single panel is not worth doing, we say so.
Panel repair or replacement: what one damaged section needs
Most panel jobs start with a knock. A car reversed half a metre too far, a wheelie bin tipped into the door on a windy morning, a trailer that clipped the bottom section, or a ball that left a dent you have been looking at for months. On a sectional door the damage usually sits in one hinged section and the rest of the door is fine. A roller door has no sections: the corrugated curtain is one long sheet, and an impact leaves a crease or buckle across it that catches in the guides every time the door winds up. Both are jobs we do across Perth, from Joondalup to Baldivis.
Not every dent needs a new panel. A shallow dent in the flat of a steel panel, with the paint unbroken and the hinges and rollers untouched, can sometimes be eased back out or simply lived with. A dent on a rib, a crease running across the panel, a fold near a hinge line, or rust that has come through from the back cannot be pulled straight; the steel has stretched and the section needs replacing. When we swap a section we match the profile so the ribs line up, and we get the colour as close as the maker's current range allows. Be aware that a door which has faced the Perth sun for ten or fifteen years has faded, so a new panel in the original colour can sit a shade brighter than its neighbours until it weathers in.
On the visit we look at the whole door, not only the section that got hit. A bent panel loads its hinges, and a bumper that reached the door has often pushed a track out or bent a roller stem as well, so we check the tracks, rollers, hinges and spring balance before we quote. Then we identify the door and its maker, order the matching section, and come back to remove the damaged one, fit the new one, true the tracks and reset the balance. If the door is too far gone for that to make sense, we say so on the spot and can price something from the full range we supply and fit instead.

How Our Repair Process Works
Assess
Send photos of the damage and the door's label if you can find it, and we tell you whether a single section is likely to fix it.
Source the matching section
We identify the maker and profile and order a section in the closest colour the current range offers.
Remove and fit
The door is secured, the damaged panel comes out, and the new one goes in on its hinges and rollers.
Realign and rebalance
Tracks trued, rollers checked, spring tension reset to the door's weight, then the opener's travel and safety reverse tested.
Colour check
We look at the new section against the rest of the door in daylight and talk through any fade difference.
Why Choose Perth Garage Doors Repairs
Repair or replace, honestly
If one section fixes it, that is what we quote. A new door only comes up when the door's condition or the numbers call for it.
Colour and profile matched
Sections ordered to the door's maker and profile, in the closest colour the current range offers.
The whole door checked
Tracks, rollers, hinges and balance inspected, because a knock hard enough to bend a panel rarely stops there.
Quoted first
A written figure for the section and the fitting before anything is ordered, with no call-out fee.
Quick for common panels
Current profiles in standard colours are usually the quickest to source, and the fitting is normally a single visit.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, on most sectional garage doors. A sectional door is built from separate hinged sections, each riding on its own rollers, so a damaged one can be unhooked and a new one hung in its place without disturbing the rest. The limits are supply and condition: the section has to be available from the maker in that profile and size, and the panels either side need to be straight enough to hinge to. Roller doors work differently. The curtain is one continuous sheet of corrugated steel, so there is no single panel to swap; a buckled curtain is replaced as a curtain on the existing drum, axle and guides, which is still a long way short of a new door. Tilt doors are one piece too, though a clad tilt door can sometimes have its facing repaired. Whatever the type, we tell you which applies once we have seen it.
We quote it once we know the door, and coming out to look costs you nothing. The figure is mostly the section itself, which varies with the maker, the width, the profile and whether it is a plain or insulated panel, plus the fitting. A bottom section with its seal and brackets is more work than a middle one, and a bent track or hinges add to it. Discontinued colours can mean extra sourcing. You get the full price in writing before we order anything.
Sometimes, though it is rarely the easy route. Makers generally sell replacement sections through their dealers and installers rather than off the shelf, and the section has to match the door's exact model, width and profile, which is why we identify the door before ordering. Fitting is the bigger issue. To take a section out, the door has to be supported, and for a bottom or top panel the spring tension often has to be released and reset; a torsion spring under load can cause serious injury if it lets go. The hinges, rollers and brackets also need to be the right pattern for that door. We fit the section and supply the hinges and panel hardware that go with it, so you get the panel, the fitting and the rebalance in one job.
Sometimes, and it depends on where the dent is and what the steel has done. A shallow, rounded dent in the flat of a panel, with the paint unbroken and nothing bent behind it, can often be eased back out or left alone, since it is only cosmetic. Once the steel has creased, a sharp line rather than a soft hollow, or the dent crosses a rib or a hinge line, the metal has stretched and will not return to flat; that is a panel replacement. The same goes for a dent that makes the door catch, rub or bang in the tracks, because then it is affecting the hinges and rollers, not just the look. We tell you which it is when we see it.
Often, not to replace it at all. If the frame, tracks, springs and opener are sound and the damage is in one or two sections, replacing those sections is usually the lowest-cost route by a wide margin. When the door is rusted along the bottom, several panels are bent, or the door is old enough that matching sections are hard to find, the arithmetic changes: a plain steel roller door is the simplest new door to buy for a standard opening, and a basic sectional door in a standard colour is the next step up. We quote the panel repair and, if it is close, the new door as well, and we explain when a full sectional door makes more sense for your opening.
There are two parts to it. Sourcing the section depends on the maker and the colour: a current profile in a standard colour is generally the quickest, while a discontinued or unusual colour takes longer, and we give you the expected wait when we quote rather than guessing here. The fitting itself is usually a single visit. Taking out the damaged section, hanging the new one, truing the tracks and resetting the balance is a same-day job on most residential doors, and a curtain swap on a roller door is similar. In the meantime we can usually get a damaged door safe and usable so you are not locked in or out.
