Dual Spring Hook (Each)
View part →
Torsion and tilt-door springs, spring hooks, anchor brackets and winding bars for sectional, tilt and roller doors. Springs are what actually lift the door — the motor only guides it — so a broken spring stops a door dead regardless of how healthy the opener is.
Tilt door springs are sold by length and finish. Galvanised springs run 585mm, 610mm, 630mm and 650mm; black springs cover 620mm, 630mm and 650mm. The stated length is the total including hooks, which is roughly 80mm more than the coil alone — measure the whole spring, hook tip to hook tip, or you will order one size out.
Sectional doors use a torsion spring wound onto a shaft above the opening, sized to the door's exact weight and height. These are made to order rather than picked off a shelf, which is why custom-made springs are listed here.
The clearest sign a spring has gone is a door that feels enormously heavy by hand, or one that opens a few inches and stops. On a sectional door you can often see the break as a visible gap in the coil.
Springs are replaced in pairs. When one goes the other is the same age and under the same load, and replacing only one leaves the door pulling unevenly and puts the new spring under strain it was not sized for.
Measure the total length including the hooks at both ends. A 650mm spring is 650mm hook tip to hook tip, with roughly 570mm of coil. Also note the finish — galvanised or black — as the two ranges use different lengths.
Both springs are the same age and have done the same number of cycles, so a second failure usually follows quickly. More importantly, one new and one old spring pull with different force, which twists the door in its tracks and wears the new spring early.
We strongly recommend not attempting torsion springs. They hold enough stored energy to cause serious injury, and winding one requires the correct bars and technique. Tilt door springs are lower-tension but still under load.
Most are rated around 10,000 cycles — roughly seven to ten years for an average household. A door used several times a day will get there much sooner.
