Quick Answer
We repair, service and re-motor Gliderol garage doors across Perth, and code their remotes. Gliderol roller doors and Glidermatic openers sit on thousands of Perth homes, so a tired drum spring, a worn lock, a curtain out of its guide or a GRD motor that hums are everyday jobs for us. A spring is $260–$340 fitted, a lock with its arms $320–$450, an opener repair $250–$480 and a new motor $750–$1,150, fixed before we start, with no call-out fee. We do not sell new Gliderol doors; when one is past saving we fit a Steel-Line, B&D or Centurion door.
Gliderol roller doors in Perth: what fails, what we do about it, what it costs
Gliderol has been making garage doors in Australia since 1974, and its Western Australian branch sits in Wangara, which is why so many roller doors on homes from Joondalup and Wanneroo down through Balcatta, Morley and Midland carry the Gliderol badge, with plenty more on sheds and rear garages south of the river. The roller door is the product the company is known for: a ribbed Colorbond curtain coiled on a drum above the opening, driven by Gliderol's own Glidermatic GRD opener when it is automatic. Gliderol also makes sectional doors, driven by the Glidermatic GTS, and sells the Danmar custom range. We do not sell new Gliderol doors. What we do, every week, is keep the existing ones working: springs, locks, guides, curtains back in their tracks, GRD and GTS openers repaired or replaced, and remotes coded on the driveway. When a Gliderol door has reached the end of its life we price a new roller door from the brands we do supply beside the repair, so you choose with both numbers in front of you.
A Gliderol roller door fails the way every steel roller door in Perth fails, and the fixes come off the same price list. The torsion spring inside the drum loses tension over the years, so the door goes heavy, drops when you let go or will not stay up: a re-tension is $220–$320 and a new spring $260–$340 fitted. Sand in the guides wears the curtain edges and the drum wheels, which is the scrape you hear on an older door, and a knock from a car or a bike can lift the curtain out of one guide, which is $380–$750 to put back and check for creasing. The lock is a Gliderol-specific part, because the barrel, the cam and the cut-out differ from a B&D or Centurion lock, so we carry the Gliderol lock and key set and fit it with its locking arms for $320–$450. A bottom seal is $220–$450, a pelmet or hood over the drum $350–$520, and a yearly service that re-tensions, cleans and lubricates the door and tests the opener is from $160. Every figure is GST inclusive and fixed before we start, and our roller door repairs page goes through each fault in more detail.
Openers and remotes are where Gliderol owners most often get stuck, because the handsets have changed several times over the years and do not interchange. The Glidermatic GRD, and the heavier GRD+, bolt on beside the drum of a roller door; the GTS range drives sectional and tilt doors from the ceiling. The TM305C, a grey three-button handset with light-blue buttons, pairs with GTS motors made from 2002 onwards; the Optima opener takes its own Optima handset; and the oldest Glidermatic units used dip-switch remotes, where a row of tiny switches inside the handset has to mirror the receiver and no modern rolling-code remote will ever learn. Coding is done at the code button on the motor, which on a roller door sits beside the drum behind the side guide. Our remote coding guide covers Gliderol step by step, and if you would rather we came out, remotes are $85 each plus $110 to attend and code them. When the GRD or GTS unit itself has failed, a repair is $250–$480 where the gear, capacitor or board is still available, and a replacement motor fitted and programmed is $750–$1,150; we fit a Merlin, Jaytech, Superlift or Steel-Line unit sized to the door, and our motor replacement cost guide sets out when each is the better buy.
Most Gliderol calls are finished in one visit, because the van carries drum springs, the Gliderol lock set, guide liners, seals and the common handsets, and same-day service runs 24/7, 365 days a year with no call-out fee. The honest limit is the curtain. A creased or rust-eaten curtain cannot be patched, and a replacement curtain for an older Gliderol door often lands close to the price of a complete new door, so at that point we quote a new Steel-Line, B&D or Centurion door, measured, supplied and fitted and let you compare: $2,200–$5,500 installed for a standard single or double with the old door taken away. Our repair cost guide has worked examples of the common jobs, and every price on this page is the same one you would be quoted on any other brand of door.

How Our Repair Process Works
Tell us what the door is doing
Ring or text a photo of the door, the motor sticker and the back of your remote; the handset generation decides which replacement fits.
Inspect on site
We run the door, check its balance, spring, guides and lock, and read the model off the Glidermatic unit before naming a part.
One fixed price
The spring, the lock, the remote or the new motor as one GST-inclusive figure. Nothing goes ahead until you have agreed it.
Repair on the spot
Common Gliderol parts ride on the van, so most jobs are finished in the one visit; a part for an older door is ordered and priced first.
Cycle, code, hand over
We cycle the door, test the safety reverse and the manual release, code the remotes and show you the upkeep that keeps sand and salt from wearing it early.
Cost Guidance
Gliderol garage door repairs in Perth are priced from the same list as every other roller door we work on, GST included: a spring re-tension $220–$320, a new drum spring $260–$340, the Gliderol lock with its arms $320–$450, a curtain back in its guides $380–$750, a Glidermatic opener repair $250–$480, a replacement motor fitted and programmed $750–$1,150, and remotes $85 each plus $110 to attend and code them. What moves a job inside its range is the door's size and weight, how long the fault has been run before we are called, and whether a part for an older Glidermatic unit is still made. There is no call-out fee, the quote is free, and the figure is fixed before we start.
| Scenario | Guide Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Spring re-fit / re-tension | $220–$320 | Your existing springs re-seated and re-tensioned when nothing has actually snapped. |
| Broken spring (single) | $260–$340 | One spring fitted and tensioned — the repair we do most, normally finished in a single visit. |
| Roller door lock + arms | $320–$450 | The roller-door lock and its lock arms replaced and keyed. |
| Door off track / stuck | $380–$750 | The door put back on its tracks, the tracks straightened and any damaged rollers replaced. |
| Motor / opener not working (repair) | $250–$480 | Fault-finding and repair of the opener itself — drive gears, limit switches, capacitor or control board. |
| Motor / opener replacement | $750–$1,150 | A new opener supplied, fitted and programmed, with remotes included. |
| Remote (extra / replacement) | $85 each + $110 to attend & program | Genuine remotes at $85 each, plus $110 to attend and code them to your motor. |
Final pricing depends on the cause, parts required, and door size — confirmed on inspection before any work begins.

Frequently Asked Questions
The same as any other roller door of the same size, GST included: a spring re-tension $220–$320, a new drum spring $260–$340, a curtain back in its guides $380–$750, the Gliderol lock with its arms $320–$450, a bottom seal $220–$450, a pelmet $350–$520, a Glidermatic opener repair $250–$480 and a replacement motor fitted and programmed $750–$1,150. Remotes are $85 each plus $110 to attend and code them, and a yearly service is from $160. The figure for your door is fixed on site before any work starts, the quote is free and there is no call-out fee. Our repair cost guide has the worked examples.
At the opener. On a Glidermatic roller door motor the code button sits on the unit beside the drum, behind the side guide; press it once, then press the button on the remote until the indicator changes, and test from the driveway. GTS sectional units follow the same idea at the motor head. Two catches: Gliderol's handsets do not interchange, so a TM305C only codes to the GTS motors it was made for and an Optima remote only to an Optima opener; and the oldest Glidermatic units take dip-switch remotes, where the row of switches inside the handset has to match the receiver and no rolling-code remote will learn. Our remote guide has the steps; or we attend and code them for $110 plus $85 a remote.
Match the handset you have, not the badge on the door, because Gliderol has run several generations that look alike and do not interchange. The TM305C is the grey three-button remote with light-blue buttons, for GTS sectional and tilt motors made from 2002 onwards. The Optima opener takes the Optima handset. Older Glidermatic roller door units used dip-switch remotes, some of which are no longer made; when the matching handset is gone, the fix is a receiver that accepts a current remote or a new motor with its own remotes. Text us a photo of the back of your remote and the sticker on the motor and we will tell you which part you need before anyone comes out.
Yes, and it has to be the Gliderol lock: the barrel, the cam and the cut-out in the curtain are brand-specific, so a B&D or Centurion lock will not sit in a Gliderol door. We carry the complete Gliderol lock and key set with its front and rear plates and two keys, fit it with the locking arms, line the bolts up with their slots in the guides and hand you both keys, for $320–$450 fitted. If the door is motorised the lock usually comes off instead, because the drive holds the curtain down and a motor pulling against a locked curtain tears it.
The spring inside the drum has lost tension or let go. It carries most of the curtain's weight, so when it tires the door feels heavy, drops when you let go, will not stay up, or stalls the motor part-way; left alone, the opener strains against the weight and fails next. A re-tension is $220–$320 and a new spring $260–$340, fitted and balanced the same day. Please do not adjust it yourself: the spring is under load inside the drum, the curtain has to be clamped so it cannot fall, and a slipped clamp sends the whole curtain down on whoever is beneath it.
Both happen. A GRD or GTS unit that hums, clicks or has drifted off its limits is repaired for $250–$480 where the gear, capacitor or board is still made; we check the door's balance first, because a heavy door kills motors and a repaired opener on an unbalanced door fails again. When the board or receiver is gone and the handsets for that generation are no longer available, a new motor fitted and programmed is $750–$1,150, and we fit a Merlin, Jaytech, Superlift or Steel-Line unit sized to the door, with its own remotes. Our motor replacement cost guide sets out when each is the better buy.
No. We repair, service and re-motor Gliderol doors, but we do not sell them. The brands we supply and fit are Steel-Line, B&D and Centurion Garage Doors, all in Colorbond colours, with a standard single or double roller door $2,200–$5,500 installed and the old door taken away. If you want a Gliderol door specifically, Gliderol's Wangara branch and its resellers can quote one, and we will happily keep servicing it afterwards. Either way, when your existing door is past saving you get the repair price and the new-door price on the same visit.
They are a sound, mainstream door, and we say that as the people who repair them. Gliderol has made roller doors in Australia since 1974, the curtains are formed from Colorbond steel like those of the other major brands, and the Glidermatic openers have driven Perth doors for decades. What decides how long any roller door lasts is not the badge but the upkeep: correct spring tension, clean and dry guides with a silicone spray rather than grease, a motor matched to the door's weight, and a service when it starts to feel heavy. Looked after, a Gliderol door gives a long working life; on a coastal block and never hosed down, it rusts along the bottom rail like any other steel door would.
